Why I don't do paranormal investigations

Wynne Thornley

Since 2022, I have been blessed to host some incredibly successful haunted field trips with some amazing paranormal seekers. Those who have attended these events would go on to share how healing the day was for them, and how unexpected our time was together.

This is for a few reasons, but the main reason comes down to this; Haunted field trips are unlike any ghost walk or paranormal investigation they have even been to or seen on TV.

And that is for good reason - haunted field trips are not paranormal investigations. They are psychic workshops that blend historical accuracy with metaphysical exploration. The intention is to normalize the paranormal, tune into our psychic senses and honor the land or structures historical memory.

There are no beepers, there are no boopers. No emf readers, no flour dusting and nothing else to disrupt our bodies natural "psychic muscles' '. This way, we can tune fully into the site we are on/in with the best paranormal indicator on earth - Our own bodies. And since our own bodies are always tuned in and activated, we do not need 'dead time' to pick up the energetic information available to us.

So why? Why was I compelled to create something so different?

The paranormal community has grown by leaps and bounds in the last 15 years. With TV shows like Ghost Hunters, Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters International becoming the hollywoodized version of investigating cases of the strange and unusual. This opened the doors for countless YouTube channels showcasing lesser known paranormal seekers; lesser known but using the copycat techniques onsite.

Unfortunately, these shows and channels end up teaching the public about terrible spiritual etiquette, unprofessional presence, and showcase how many of these investigators are clearly lacking any education or experience of earth energies or metaphysics. Many are skeptics, and rely solely on their instruments, not thinking for one minute that they themselves could be triggering their own devices. And of course, to be an investigator one must wear all black, gothic makeup, offer a tougher than nails image, and conduct the work in the witching hours. OH! And when you do get a hit on your beeper-booper - looking shocked, or screaming, running away and over blowing the situation is expected.

Cue this common phrase "OMG, OMG, OMG guys, did you hear that? I am so scared"

I call bullshit on it all.

After a lifetime of deeply studying the three sides of paranormal investigation, I began to get very angry that hollywood wants to keep the paranormal conversation in the realm of superstition and the continuation of promoting the use of old, outdated investigation styles that have proven to be problematic since the 1960-70's.

Spoiler Alert: Not everything is a demon, or even an earth bound spirit. These occurrences are extremely rare, but do happen. To be honest with you, most paranormal complaints can be solved in an afternoon with the right practitioner.

When it came to haunted sites and those who gained fame from their work in the field of the paranormal - the research I began doing for my podcast The Dark Side of Lightwork really began stirring a pot of truth for me. Some of our most famous haunted sites turn out to not be as haunted as advertised - saying that the tales of the macabre are often made up to generate tourism. As I uncovered more about certain people in the field, I became dismayed that many of the most famous work/ed with egotistical intentions; leaving the ones doing integral work over shadowed or forgotten to history. What's worse, is that I feel like all this showboating, investigating for fame, and lack of well rounded investigators makes my industry look like a joke.

And I don't think any of this is a joke. I take my work very seriously. People are having real experiences, and a little education goes a long way.

I wanted to offer something different. Something that brought light to the history of haunted places, demystify what is really happening onsite, and allow others to learn how to tune into the energy themselves; Taking this practice forward for the rest of their lives.

Most attendees are new to this concept, others are excited to flex their psychic skills in a new way. All come away with more confidence and less fear around the world of the paranormal. And this is what makes my heart chakra full!

So I carry on. Walking this path as long as spirit guides me. I don't have all the answers to the unknown, but I partner enough with spirit to know that things need a shift and it is time to normalize the paranormal.

Stay Spooky,
